Tzedakah Projects

Tzedakah Money Collection (Every Friday)

Gan children (with their parents) take turns collecting monetary donations to support a number of charities in the community. Please see below for a list of the charities the Gan supports.

Diaper Collection (Ongoing)

A collection bin is located in the GPA Parent's Lounge in the Gan for the collection of diapers to be donated to the DC Diaper Bank. Click here for an article by the diaper bank about talking to young children about what a diaper bank is and poverty. In the first 2 weeks of this program the Gan donated approximately 900 diapers to the DC Diaper Bank!

Martha’s Table Brigade (monthly – Usually 3rd Tues/Weds of the month)

Once a month, families bring food donations to school with their children for distribution to the homeless. Our children learn the mitzvah of helping feed the hungry. Click here to see the inventory of supplies donated to Martha's Table in October, 2013.

Shoebox Project (December)

This is a cute name for an important act of tzedakah.  We collect toiletries, hats, mittens socks, and a shoe-box size toy, which are placed in shoeboxes that the children decorate and help to assemble.  The shoeboxes are then delivered to So Others May Eat (S.O.M.E.)

Tzingo (Close to Purim)

A combination of Tzedakah and Bingo!  This event teaches our children about Tzedakah.  Children play a picture bingo game and bake hamantashen after a pizza meal.   All attendees are encouraged to bring a new toy, which will be donated to Martha’s Table.
